bush strikes out at kerry over taxes:

Oh no!

Kerry's going to raise taxes on incomes greater than $200,000, the top 2% of income earners, and good for him, maybe they'll all end up paying something:

in 2001, nearly 1,100 tax filers with AGI [adjusted gross income] above $500,000 paid federal income taxes only because of the AMT,(9) but almost 900 people in that income range paid no federal income tax at all despite the AMT.

900 people in the top %1 pay no income taxes at all? These are the people who are winning the class war. And that's just the first Bush tax cut. A rate of 28% (the upper limit on the AMT rate) is only 8% higher than the rate on a middle income of 70K after FICA taxes (which are only paid on the first 70K of income) are accounted for. This is virtually a flat-tax system already. Don't cry for us, working America.

In other news, Republicans denounce America for not being able to make a typewriter capable of superscripting the letters 'th' years after America sends man to moon, in a valient effort to distract Americans from fact that the Boston Globe, the AP, et. al., have all concluded the same thing about Bush's incomplete service record in the Air National Guard without relying on the documents procured by CBS.
