"American Ingenuity":
Usually seems to involve finding creative ways of cheating labor. The Association of Professional Flight Attendants has narrowly rejected a concessions agreement with American Airlines:
American sought $660 million in annual concessions from its 12,000 pilots, $620 million from 34,000 ground workers and $340 million from 24,000 flight attendants. The agreements include layoffs for 2,500 pilots, about 2,000 flight attendants and up to 1,400 ground workers.
Check out the job description and hiring requirements: "The issue of pay starts with the fact that base salary for an American Airlines attendant is less than $16,000". The other unions don't fare much better. The chairman is taking a paycut down to $350,000, and he's quick to defend the lighter burden on management. A payroll tax cut would make this a lot easier to swallow for the bottom feeders. If AA files for bankruptcy the company has said it would use Latin American flight attendants who are paid much less than their U.S. counterparts.
