    argue like it's 1999:

    the discussion in comments to this post feel like a timewarp, and the follow-up is pretty much a serialized version of the body of Krugman et.al.'s early efforts to ignore what people were actually saying. Most impressive: barkley rosser's bizarro chicanery about how WTO demonstrations in Seattle offered "zero criticism of the US for the things that other counties were being criticized for". Like, that's in just the first paragraphs of one of Public Citizen's mid-1999 diatribes, and wearing your Friedman Institute Amulet of Ricardian Trade to ward off the commie infestation wasn't an adequate response to the people outside the meeting.

    Anyway, I hadn't seen that shit in a long time - the last time there was a march in Chicago at least the media had the decency not to compulsively lie about why all us wierdos were marching. That alone felt vaguely like progress.
