day 8:
brief scans of the cable news suggests that it's still nothing but all terry schiavos, all the time. Reminds me of when the Iran-Contra hearings interupted my afternoon cartoons for a few weeks in a row and how angry that made me feel every day, for the 5 minutes before I got back outside into the sunlight.
The objective of all this is to paint up even the conservative, Republican-appointed judges as out-of-control liberal activists, right? A sort of variation on Billmon's object lessons in thuggery from Central Asia that I nearly find plausible: "You can always treat your political dissidents too good, but you can never treat them too bad."
update: juan cole points out a poll indicating what the most important stories are to Americans, and as you can see the occasional kidnapping, political battles over the status of vegetables, highschool gun rampage, prosecutions against pop stars, incarcerations of famous housekeepers, and other "moral values" and "crime" related stories rank dead last. We've been "served", I believe is the parlance, it's already been "broughten".
