Every member of the US armed services I've ever met has been cool headed, intelligent, well spoken - and regardless of political persuasion downright civil. I'm speaking mostly about random vets I meet on the train back to Minnesota, or more commonly dive bars around Chicago. They make good conversation and don't call people communists the minute there's a disagreement. Support the troops, they're good drinking buddies.

So maybe it's just gallows humor, hell some of it has to be, but when I read a string of quotes like these it makes me think I need to get back to the country more often. I kind of forget, living as I do in a backwards, hedonistic enclave of reactionary happiness, where even the drunks are smiling and the homeless chap who shovels the sidewalk speaks fluent japanese for some reason, that we're breeding trolls in American backyards.
