farm aid:
I'm not sure how somebody would look at this report and end up with this schlock, let alone a member of the board of directors being "shocked" by the most basic, publically available information.
We note happily that Farm Aid has spoken out against our bloated, agribusiness oriented ag subsidy programs, and that as a subsidy program itself it has been necessary primarily because US congress intervenes in the market in a manner that drives family farms out of business (and not with the estate tax, cretins), under the hubris of protecting them, both here and abroad.
The Chicago Tribune has accurately reported on the matter
but nevertheless continues to support other absurd, protectionist nonsense, for instance expanding the protectionist racket for GM crops and related genetic patents on behalf those same Western ag cartels that benefit from those same direct subsidies, etc..
Note to the Chicago Tribune: supporting CAFTA without having ag subsidy reform first makes about as much sense as opposing ag subsidies and then berating Farm Aid for not devoting all its resources to ag subsidies.
update 9/22: and speak of the devil, there's the Senate this morning passing the $100+ billion HR 2744 appropriations bill for agriculture, passed 97 to 2.
