an elegy too soon...,
2005-09-02 08:08:11
friday morning:
two suns in the sunrise, counter-insurgency operations being readied, there are still reports
coming in about unevacuated hospitals and large numbers of trapped elderly. Presumably the cops that haven't been leading the roving bands of looters are the ones reporting ammo shortages, while other people are still shooting into mobs, while others face the guns of their rescuers. Bush is live on C-SPAN saying "We'll get on top of this situation". The situation is clearly still on top right now. Some right-winger in the area is on the phone berating The Nation editor and "the left" for exaggerating the situation, he's alright, afterall. His failure to blame the gay bars of the French quarter for the hurricane is inadequate.
update 9:30am: Look at what commie Holland did in the face of the Impending Decline of Europe due to their rampant hedonistic secularism. To get through this minor crisis Americans need to unite and demonstrate more sympathy for the Pentagon.
update 12PM: Look on CNN, a relief effort! Thank god, now they can start shooting the hoodlums. That crowd at the stadium is still immense. Here's the scene found at Charity hospital. The buses came too late for many of those rescued from the rooftops.

Might have helped sooner - like before y'all started pilin' up in the streets and the Superdome - but there was golf to play and guitars to strum...

The estimates run in the range of 100 billion in mostly homeowner wealth wiped out, just to put that 1 billion in outpouring in perspective.
