god* what a jackass:
more garbage from Fareed Zakaria (I keep clicking on this shit at ptd, why?):
['Anti-americanism' is a growing 'ideology', blah blah blah, I'm a deep thinker because I know how to blame our problem on others, blah blah blah, shoe on the other foot, blah blah blah] "There are many issues on which the United States is the crucial organizer of collective goods... On terror, trade, AIDs, nuclear proliferation, U.N. reform, and foreign aid, U.S. leadership is indispensable."
Bush leadership in the "war on terror" has lead to more terrorism; Bush leadership in trade has lead in lumber tariffs, steel tariffs, subsidization of Chinese interventions in the labor market and quotas on Chinese undergarments, rising ag subsidies, and an otherwise vast, politically motivated system of protectionism (perhaps the only trade Bush has gone out of the way to encourage much was the drug trade); Bush leadership on AIDS is undermining efforts to fight AIDS; Bush's leadership on proliferation involved covering Pakistan's tail end as they lead the world in proliferation, waging a major war against an unarmed country using proliferation as a false pretext and thus working to discredit other efforts, such as they exist, and like his predecessor continues doing virtually nothing to solve the unmentionable problem of nuclear posturing with Russia while making empty, counter-productive threats against North Korea as it became a nuclear power; Bush leadership on foreign aid continues the long standing tradition of making the US the least generous industrial power, least helpful and almost entirely guided by short-term domestic interests, but hey, we're the world leader in backing Israel and their occupation, a subject of some import when discussing the US' poor polling numbers that somehow goes unmentioned in the article.
God knows what is meant by "UN reform": doesn't cow-tow before the master enough?
* Another use of the word god among atheists is as a substitution for the proscribed four-letters in profane statements, as in "for god's sake!". For example "god knows", or "who in god's name knows", means something like "I don't know, and niether does anyone else". It may also be used as an interjection to express shock, discontent and anger, as in "god! what a jackass".
Update 9/1: Also, what the hell does this mean:
LIZ DOLE: The Constitution guarantees freedom of religion, not freedom from religion.
And why do the fundies never remember the "love thy enemy" part? The 2 minute hates are getting to me.
