I was reading this Third Way report on the DP's political options, and, like, ok, you've lost a share of your old populist vote because your candidates are incapable of effusing drinking buddy charm or convincingly potraying the faithful religiousity necessary to get elected in a fundamentalist country, let alone answer questions with some plain spoken curtness. Fine, you can't win the beer commercial running urbane politicos from the coasts. But talk about the Democratic coallition in terms of the conservative-liberal line only accounts for maybe a third of the electorate and is thusly self-reported subjective nonsense. "Moderate" is not an ideology, but a confused answer to the wrong question. And on foreign policy they talk about "patriotism, strength, and resolve" as the answer to the public's distrust of Democrats on foreign policy. Where's "honesty"? Or all of this stuff?
