if so it's also a really ugly baby:

RICE: What we're seeing here, in a sense, is the growing -- the birth pangs of a new Middle East. And whatever we do, we have to be certain that we are pushing forward to the new Middle East, not going back to the old one.

Speaking of ugly babies, SadlyNo! recalls a quote:

"You may then dispute that all the above does not justify aggression against civilians, for crimes they did not commit and offenses in which they did not partake... This argument contradicts your continuous repetition that America is the land of freedom, and its leaders in this world. Therefore, the American people are the ones who choose their government by way of their own free will; a choice which stems from their agreement to its policies."
-Osama bin Laden, "Letter to America"

Which, with only minor distinctions, is largely in agreement with Alan Dershowitz's latest defense of indiscriminate attacks on civillians:

Hezbollah and Hamas militants, on the other hand, are difficult to distinguish from those "civilians" who recruit, finance, harbor and facilitate their terrorism. Nor can women and children always be counted as civilians, as some organizations do. Terrorists increasingly use women and teenagers to play important roles in their attacks.

To his moral credit, he does indeed raise the bar from "mere voting" to "financing".

Were Dershowitz capable of applying his shit to the wall with the vaguest semblance of logical consistency this would be obviously an argument in favor of making every Israeli over the age of 18 literally a valid military target and their murder would hardly be worthy of moral condemnation: Israel has compulsory three year military service for men and women, after which they remain on active duty reserve for a couple decades. All Israelis pay taxes that finance the IDF and facilitate their acts of aggression, occupation and terrorism. "Nor can women and children be counted as civilians, as some organizations do." Israel forces women to serve in its military, and teenagers often work in a subordinate role to contribute to financing the campaign. Israeli "missiles and rockets target and hit [Lebanese and Palestinian] restaurants, apartment buildings and schools", just like Hezbollah, as well as power plants, bridges, airports, sea ports, hospitals, churches, mosques, and so on. Hezbollah has openly declared hostilities, thus Israelis "who voluntarily remain behind", or in occupied territory, "have become complicit". That's Alan for you, always finding new pragmatic paths towards peace.

update: Oh! She was just talking about Armageddon! Silly me.
