a while back we noted the drastic increases in disappearances and political killings and refugee flows in Columbia, corresponding to W's devotion to the rapid expansion of Bubba's 1999 Plan Columbia, which itself was merely the expansion of H.W.'s unsuccessful 1989 "Andean Strategy".
The goal, they say, is to fight narco-trafficking. They don't really believe that though: what they actually believe is in assisting narco-traffickers in killing off unruly populations, including a certain Marxist insurgency but also, for example, ruthlessly targetting union activistism on behalf of Coke, nevermind destroying the sole livelihood of peasant farmers rather than offering them an alternative.
Further evidence for this was released by the National Security Archives yesterday, when they published US government documents that list US ally and Columbian presidente Uribe - our man in the war on drugs - as part of the Mendellin Cartel, "close personal friend" of narco-terrorist Pablo Escobar, etc. etc.
