The Titanic "There was peace..., 2006-09-25 20:54:19 | Main | the road to hell could at the very least have a very low legal speed limit..., 2006-10-02 15:20:17

pragmatism bears no compromise, however fishy:

"shop lifting is just a livin wage earned by other means".

Why did we not just insist on a living wage ordinance? I suppose in this Canada of Cities good people were fighting for it and couldn't secure the votes. They compromised, and then the main whining point - may Mayor Daley be waterboarded beneath the rankest offal of hell - became how unfair it is to the biggest kids on the block. Oh my Home Depot! Oh associates-paradise Walmart! Well apply it to everybody then, like we wanted in the first place: it makes no difference economically, except for the poor people trying to scrape by in a magnificent city that glories in its own absurd corruption.

I'm with the poet: decriminalize shoplifting. Private security firms are expensive these days, what with all the overseas demand. In no time they'll find the reason to lessen the incentive to theft and respond like Rational Economic Men.

I could shave with that, AND use it as a styptic pencil.
