how to lose influence and make enemies..., 2007-08-20 22:46:43 | Main | answer..., 2007-08-21 09:00:28

    question:

There's all kinds of coverage of these various arms deals with Sunni militias in Iraq "to fight Al Qaeda" that will further facilitate the escalation of the Iraqi civil war. It would seem imperative to ask then what is happening with our arms deals with the Shi'ite dominated Iraqi "government".

I don't want to seem dense or anything but we did keep them on a very short leash through all that "as they stand up we'll stand down" talk - we gave them small arms and riot gear but not the kind of heavy equipment you'd think would be necessary to "stand up" as a national army - and if we're suddenly arming the Sunni's to the teeth and abandoning the government it would be a clear signal that we're winding our way back to supporting another Sunni dictatorship.
