      Voters, sensibly, want a candidate capable of magical thinking within a rigidly conformist, predictably batshit framework. Otherwise their neighbors and their neighbors' leaders, who are all viciously crazy, will go off the deep end and kill everyone. It's time you eggheads got right with God too. Spoiling the magic is objectively pro-neighbor rampage.
