It’s easy to forget just how young East African nations are. Kenya and Somalia achieved independence from British rule in the 1960s. With centuries of colonialism behind them and just a couple generations on their own, it’s no wonder that even the most advanced countries in the region, such as Kenya, struggled with poor governance and corruption. And in a sense, the colonial rule never ended. Only now we call it “development.” It’s a softer, gentler kind of foreign influence, but no less real for wearing a smiling face
David Axe is writing from Mogadishu, Somalia. Start here. Because Mr. Axe is an asshole, you'll have to follow along by incrementing the number in the URL by one, as there's no "next post", and keep moving along that way if there's no post with that id. Alternatively you can try summoning the category and following along that way, once you find the page with the first post on it. That's probably more efficient.
