When explaining why Texas didn't experience a housing bubble with the rest of the nation over the last decade one might be bothered to note that Texas experienced a housing bubble and crash and subsequent lost decade 30 odd years earlier.
I do not know what these consumer protection laws replaced - usually credited with preventing a repeat of their recent history and presumably signed into law by one Gov. George W. Bush - but it would be interesting to see the legislative history regarding Texas' mortgage finance regulations. From what I can gather from excerpts in news archives that I'm too cheap to buy they were going as far as amending their constitution over it.
