that old bipartisan foreign policy spirit:

Senate hearings on energy pricing this morning Sen. Frank Lautenberg (D) was using his five minutes at the microphone to sanctimoneously bitch about how we saved Saudi Arabia in 1991 (and what'd they do for us lately?!) from an utterly nonsense, bullshit threat from Iraq that HW Bush invented out of whole cloth. In this fashion prominent Senate Democrats, over a decade after the fact, happily reinforce past Republican lies to justify bullshit wars. You'd think - of any I can think of - that the Gulf War would have required less lying to whip up a frenzy for enforcing the UN Charter, notwithstanding the fear of the Bushies that a diplomatic solution would be reached.

update: And on the same point... a swathe of congressional Democrats from Feingold to Clinton get the hell out of dodge.
