The Atomic Bomb and the End of World War II: A Collection of Primary Sources:
Japan's Ambassador to Moscow Sato and George Marshall (alleged subscriber to that "older morality that opposed the intentional killing of noncombatants") are about the only responsible characters of the lot. Everybody else involved is mad.
We agree with Ike:
Japan was already defeated ... dropping the bomb was completely unnecessary. I thought that our country should avoid shocking world opinion by the use of a weapon whose employment was no longer necessary to save American lives.
