In commemoration of St. Paddy driving all the snakes out of Ireland - to only return disguised as successive waves of conquering Vikings, Normans, and British, that unlike the snakes were not triple distilled moonshine induced hallucinations - today is the day we drink like we drank the day before. By the entropic processes of Lent this observance of the arrival of monotheism to the island was transformed from a holy feast to an outright celebration of drunken anarchy. It's the one day of the year I feel like a normal American.
