In commemoration of St. Pat driving all the snakes out of Ireland - to only return disguised as successive waves of conquering Vikings, Normans, and British, who, unlike the snakes, weren't just alcohol induced hallucinations - today is the day we drink like we drank yesterday. By the entropic processes of Lent this observance of the arrival of monotheism to the island has transformed from a holy feast to an outright celebration of drunken anarchy. Lately it's been the one day of the year I feel like a normal American.
