The internet as we know it
may soon
no longer exist;
cable companies and the FCC are
working to end the impudent tide of open access and the
dangers a democratic medium poses to democratic society. The DMCA has already been used to
stifle free expression, research, and fair use.
And as if other media weren't
impossibly
fucked
already,
the internet will now be
bent over and ruthlessly sodamized with a chainsaw.
It might not be to late to prevent it, but
much of this specific issue, nevermind the
bigger issue this is a part of,
has fallen largely out of the public sphere,
and pending legislation is furthering the fall.
Consider, if you will, the invasion of privacy legislated
by the Patriot Act. Consider the futility of making
digital piracy impossible. On a more optimistic note freedom presently reigns
triumphant.
And may this deep-linking·
bullshit
be into the pits of judiciary hell from wence it came.
Screw NPR, and
the rest of them.
