US foreign policy since 9/11 shows no signs of actually
combating the known sources of terrorism (and let's be honest, we're
one of them); we've stepped up military aid to the
Phillipines, nevermind
everybody else, including Turkey
and Indonesia, niether of whom I can really distinguish from the terrorists.
This is tied to environmental policies (Be a patriot:
Save GM From Itself), where
congress has given in to environmentalist demands for the preservation of the Alaskan Artic National Wildlife Refuge
(a symbolic victory of little relative merit - there's no significant oil resources there - it was a misdirection ploy
or just stupid, and there is no upper limit on the idiocy that gets by in Washington)
while at the same time rejecting
demands for stricter fuel efficiency
(with corresponding arguments that owning an SUV
is a civil liberty that must be protected... OK!), despite the fact
that Americans are overwhelmingly green, and
ensuring stronger dependancies on foreign oil that push
the US further towards protecting oil interests in the mid-east, exacerbating already high sentiments against
the US abroad. Looking at this as part of our "diplomatic strategy" for the war on terrorism,
I fail to see any sense in the priorities, but it can't be surprising that the senators that passed this
bill were bought out.
