"where was the world's outrage when mass graves, rape and torture rooms and other evidence of Saddam Hussein's genocide and other inhumanities were revealed? ... If there has been humiliation, it isn't the fault of the West. It is Muslims' fault."
Jeez, I dunno, maybe getting brushed under the rug by a cabal of Reaganites?
The GOP's rhetoric has really shifted to new lows: the Bushists pull out attacks on anti-war and war-critic types for supporting Saddam Hussein, something only Reaganites can accurately be accused of, blaming US torture rooms on Iraqis, and falsely excusing the crimes because they're not as bad as 9/11 - something that has nothing to do with systematic abuse of POWs, nevermind that we've killed factors greater Iraqis and Afghans than a few Saudis and Egyptians killed on 9/11, so I can easily think of something worse. If we're not as bad as Saddam yet, which by virtue of our support for his worst crimes is debatable, at least we're trying hard to sink to that level.
The whole bunch have completely abandoned any moral pretense by blaming others and downplaying the torture of helpless, many quite possibly innocent, detainees as "hazing". This is a great way to demonstrate how little we care about the abuse. In the accussation that critics don't care about Saddam's record they implicitly sell this as a humanitarian intervention, by downplaying their own record in arguing that this behavior is tolerable they throw that sales pitch out the window. If there's any context to keep in mind beyond blind outrage, that's it.
