    Brian Michael Jenkins on C-SPAN today (at a pretty good UCLA campus round table discussion) is trying to sum up Al Qaeda's idealogical motivations, so after reflecting on the Western military presence in the Middle east and how it is perceived as a threat to the Umma he discusses a vague sort of cultural onslaught AQ apparently feels threatened by, and immediately after adding "it's not just democracy, it's not that" he lists some other things, one of which is "Thomas Jefferson".

    I have no idea what he could have possibly meant, but I think it adds a certain bizarre gravitas to the rich slurry foam of our total and utter miscomprehension.
