  It didn't take long after the development of Skin Sheathing for the
  C.R.C. to determine that often times the modest protection it afforded
  was simply not enough for many of its clients. The R&D department has
  recently made some sparkling developments in the form of flexible alloy
  technology. These advancements have directly impacted cybernetic defense
  in the form of the Dermal Plating implant. Dermal Plating is similar to
  Skin Sheathing in that it is an externally installed, passive defense
  system, but it is composed of a flexible alloy that is much more
  resilient to damage than its polymer based cousin.
