  emitter than those found in an arm cannon. The laser itself makes use 
  of atoms in a metastable energy state that decay to a lower energy 
  level, stimulating others to decay and resulting in a violent 
  crescendo of concentrated radiation. The subsequent beam of power
  is strong enough to punch through all but the toughest armour.
