less rodeo clown more carny capitalism:

Glenn Beck shilling overpriced gold coins at double their melt value to his audience as a safety net against the horrific calamity to come is sort of the perfect metaphor for his entire carnival act.

I suppose it's inevitable that the peasants will leap to the defense of the whole thing and attack Weiner's intervention as communist tyranny. In the free market we have a right to be defrauded by hucksters, the privilege to pay for overpriced commemorative coins as a hedge against a decade or three of rampant hyperinflation. Hell, taking the risk premium in the Beckian universe into account Goldline isn't defrauding Beck's audience, but performing a magnanimous act of charity by selling its gold at all.

It's the kind of market built entirely on the small time information asymmetry cons that a carnie would be proud of.
